the swa wavejam champion is a haloed title once held by our own mr. Bob "bombers over baghdad" Shelmerdine.... continues here with 20 of the uk's most exciting riders courtersy of the legendary Southampton University Windsurfing Society.

A huge thanks to the avon beach faithfull, matt wemms, chris audsley, andy king, bird
killer, pirate, dave, bob and me for flying the flag.

A massive thank you to Andy, Louise and Chris, Kirsty and Willy and everyone up there
giving it the tiree love and huge shout for the big man - Dave and Sean and Duncan....

There was a lot of gripping up there! the gripper kept people moving from bar to bar for
fresh air and yet his true identity was never uncovered!

Plenty of doom too - thanks chaps...so all in all it was pretty mad! and if you were not
there none of this going to make too much sense....

Letter to the birds of tiree - by Rt Hon. Lord James Twitcher aka Bird
killer

Dear birds of the island of tiree.

I may have left now but I will be back.

Breed hard and fast because when October comes around again, it will be open season
be you an eagle or sparrow expect to die!

Until then make the most of the peace and quiet.

Kind regards

Lord James Twitcher

The event was fantastic, great comedy, great drinking and brilliant to see a major
corporate sponsor behind it in the name of Corona Extra, Event Scotland, Argyl and Bute
council and the Islands Enterprise iniative.

A shade more wind and swell would have been perfect but the event stands out as one of
the best in the world. Let the pictures tell the story!

DJ 1210 plays highcliffe sailing club - 09/09/2006
We are delighted to have simon greatorex - aka dj 1210 joining us from Newcastle for
the Saturday night party. He flies in to play a mamoth 5 hour set to help those evenning
beers slip down.

Si and I go back to 1991 and our days at southampton university.... He has
been my favourite dj, my best man and best friend since then.. He has dj'd at all our best
events and he has become the sound of spotonwater, our roadworks partys, my mac and
my ipod. I think everyone that has worked with me has become a fan of dj 1210, olstar,
molly, warren, angus, lara, ed, john and matt have all become good fiends and fans and
when we do an event it is never the same if si is not in charge of the choons.

The choons have have charged us up - particularly at the London Boat Shows, Ally Pally
and the like and when we did the Manor, the show bar, the beaches and bashley park si
was the main man.

I hope you enjoy them this weekend at our secret sunset cafe bar venue on
saturday evening.......

"SPOTONKING OF THE LAKE"- 6/9/06 @ ELLINGHAM LAKE - 06/09/2006
"spoton King of the lake"

On wednesday 6th September we held the Uk's first wake surf comp!

It was awesome 6 riders a boat filled to the max, and over, to give us the biggest wake
seen up at the lake all summer!!

riders and ballast

All competing for the much coverted prizes for: Longest ride, Best move and Most style!!

Chris Irwin rode first with a beautiful dry start, off the back of the boat, dropping into a
lovely wave. Which rewarded him with a 23sec ride! In the second round Chris had a epic
wave and rode it all the way round the lake for 1min14secs, thats got to be the longest
ride on a UK wave?!

The Turk rode next and although looking very comfortable on the wave never managed a
ride longer than 8secs! Too busy posing for the camera i feel!!

The result of Turk eating too many pies!!
when prop meets submerged pipe the pipe wins, with only two riders down this could
have been the comp over as there was no spare prop, but with the aid of a large hammer,
garden roller and the skills of Chris we managed to get the boat running again. even if it
was a little lighter!!

Derek was next up, being a "wake surf pioneer" big things were expected, and he did not
dissapoint riding his first wave for 24secs. His second wave was another good one of
20secs, but after that it all went a bit pete tong and he gave up on the board to try and
body surf the wave, awesome!!

Tom rode next, opting to ride switch on the wave gave him extra style points, but it was
clear from the start he was going for the longest ride prize, just finding the sweet spot
on the wave and staying in it, giving him the longest ride for the first heat of 39secs. But
didn't manage to better it in the second heat.

Liam lined up next with a dry start of the back of the boat. Showing us his usual
aggressive style. Struggled a bit bit the bigger wave, with an awesome amound of boat
loving. he just kept getting sucked onto the back of the boat.
His saving grace was a wicked wake to wake which he rode away clean from!!

Shop monkey myself rode last. Had some really good rides, even with the help of Turk
trying to bury the front of the board. Just loving the sun being out and the bigger wave
giving a chance to play on the wave.

Getting my own back on Turk!! Enjoy the handle!

Head coach/ judge Olster overseeing from the bow.

Judging duties, Mark hitting the larger as still injured and gutted cant ride.

The final standing were:

LONGEST RIDE: Chris Irwin for his epic 1min14 ride

BEST MOVE: Liam Smith for the awesome wake to wake

MOST STYLE: Me for god know what!!

A massive thanks to Pete for some epic driving as al
wa
ys!!

BRITISH WINDSURFING AT ITS BEST!
THIS IS A FREE SHOW……

                                                                                                       Matt   P erch   champion 05

It is nearly a year since spotonwater brought the new and dynamic spectator friendly
discipline of Super-x to the UK

Since then we have run a spectacular event on the Scottish isle of Tiree with GMFco
Marketing. Now we want to open your eyes to this unique, often hilarious and fun
summer sport.

Picture this; eight windsurfers line up on a beach with their kit in hand. The gun fires, a
Motor bike screams along the beach and they run down the beach to the water’s edge,
they throw their kit in the sea and scramble to beach start and fly out to the first
downwind mark. On the way each competitor must throw a forward loop, then they turn
together and race for the beach inches from each other. They travel at 35 knots and head
for the first giant sausage floating just 50 meters from the beach. The leader flies 5ft in
the air and just crosses the tube - lands with a splash and accelerates down wind to next
gybe mark just 10ft from shore. The second man, third and fourth riders crash as they
cross the 40ft tube, the 5th and 6th clear it , the seventh and eighth pile straight into the
mayhem.
Meanwhile our leader is heading out to the next mark at 35 knots where he crashes into
giant sausage no2, he is mullered and is left winded in the water, riders five and six are
now 1st and second. The fleet of top flight professional riders is being led by a 16 year
old girl from New Milton, the British champion is limping back to shore with a destroyed
sail…. This is British Super-X – BE THERE FOR THIS SPECTATOR EXTRAVAGANZA…. Be
prepared to laugh harder than ever before.... be prepared for speed , loops, carving
turns, racing and crashes inches from the beach..

The action starts on the beach and ends on the beach, first rider across the line wins!

A PRO-AM fleet of 40 riders from all over the UK will compete for the spotonwater.com
British Super-X Grand Prix for Mens, Ladies, Youths and Junior titles.

Sortie after sortie of riders will race the downwind assault course all weekend long.

Friday – Student Windsurfing Association contest
Saturday/Sunday: United Kingdom Windsurfing Association British Pro-Am Grand Prix

Plus dj1210 plays at secret location on Saturday 15th thanks to Hed Kandi, Naked and
Defected records

First Super X Event went off!!!!! - 03/02/2006

Check out www.boardseeker.com august edition for first write - up!

Some people remember where they were when JFK was shot. Remember where you were when the first UK Super Cross Event went off at Avon Beach Christchurch? The Unity Supercross Event on 23rd/24th July was an absolute gem!!! Saturday greeted us with dead flat calm (ideal wakeboarding conditions!!) but got more and more tempting as the afternoon progressed, reaching planing winds by 2pm. This gave the opportunity for all of the lighter wind kit to be tried and tested by the massive numbers who had just that in mind. Sunday, however, was a whole different kettle of fish......... At 8.15am it was clear that the buoys needed to be moved to accommodate running the Super Cross in a moderate South Easterly wind. My god did it rain early on! Not exactly spectator friendly weather but the Marquee on the beach proved to be absolutely priceless in keeping spirits high. As the rain subsided late morning, the wind started to turn South Westerly and grow stronger. It was apparent that yet another Spot-On-Water Demo day was set to deliver the goods!! Heat after heat was run in a gradually building breeze. By late afternoon we saw the classic Avon Beach conditions that draw so many people from far and wide to sail here. Through a combination of consistent sailing and plain dogged determination, Matt Pearch took the Silverware with the certainty that this title will need to be defended on British Waters in the near future. Full results to be posted soon.
